Sales Management Training: How to lead with ?Girl Scout Power ...

The Girl Scouts of America was teetering on the edge of extinction when Frances Hesselbein was selected president of the organization during early 1976.

The Girls Scouts, an organization comprised of thousands of volunteers from across the 50 states, have been carrying out their particular business in a very conventional method for years but that way was now placing the organization in danger.

Bleeding funding and declining enrollments, Frances realized she need to improve things fast or the institution will vanish.

But exactly how can she motivate a team of thousands of volunteers?

Since her position didn?t have inherent capability to control, she immediately realized that she couldn?t order the desired adjustments in behaviour.

She was aware she had to evoke a new form of management.

The genius of Frances was that she fully understood that by incorporating as many people as possible in the process of change, she could utilize the strength of others to obtain the very important goals she was accountable with achieving.

Her vision, like the vision of Sales Management Mastery was really clear:

?The more power you give, the more power you get?.

Frances protected the Girl Scouts of America, not by just carrying her power, but rather by giving her power with those of her followers. And none of her followers had high sales quotas to hit in the midst of an economic downturn!

As a sales manager, do you wield power or do you give it away like Frances Hesselbein?

Its hard with so many initiatives and orders coming down from above and getting planted smack dab in the middle of your plate everyday, it?s challenging not to lapse into a ?I order ? you do? form of management style.

Regardless of that, top-performing sales leaders go above the fray and don?t give in to the temptation to command. Of course, what sales consultant really wants to be told what they need to do the whole day?

Your task as a top-performing sales manager would be to hire and retain top performing salespeople who can think by themselves and produce excellent results on their own. The top-performing sales leader gets the best out of them by giving away their power, so that the sales person becomes encouraged.

And that is how you will lead with ?Girl Scout Power?.
